Catherine Merlo is an award-winning writer with 25 years of experience in communications.
Currently Western Editor with Farm Journal's Dairy Today magazine, Merlo was head of her own communications business from 1991-2004. She has worked with many national cooperatives and other companies. She was named 2000 Writer of the Year by the Cooperative Communicators Association. Merlo also received the award in 1999 and 1993.
Clients have included CoBank, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, National Cooperative Bank, Sunkist Growers, Calcot, Ltd., the San Joaquin Valley Cotton Board, the University of California-Riverside and Progressive Farmer magazine. She has authored three books on cooperative history.
From 1979 to 1991, Merlo headed the communications program for Bakersfield-based Calcot, Ltd., the nation’s largest cotton marketing cooperative. Prior to that, Merlo was a sportswriter for The Bakersfield Californian newspaper.
Merlo, a graduate of California State University, Bakersfield, has a master’s degree from the Professional Writing Program at the University of Southern California.
