Leta Mach runs her own communications business. From 1987-2003, she worked at the National Cooperative Business Association as Director of Communications and Cooperative Education. Before joining NCBA, she worked as Information Specialist for Greenbelt Homes, Inc., a 1,600-member housing cooperative.
Her extensive experience with cooperatives includes serving as the Secretary of the Greenbelt Consumer Cooperative, a 4,000-member food cooperative. She has also served as Treasurer of the Greenbelt Cooperative Nursery School, and the Newsletter Editor of the Maryland Council of Parent Participation Nursery Schools. In 2004, she was elected President of Parent Cooperative Preschools International. In addition, she served on the Board of Directors of the Cooperative Communicators Association.
With her extensive experience and knowledge of cooperatives, she has conducted numerous workshops focusing on the basics. She developed NCBA’s Co-op 101 Educational Training Program for the employees and members of cooperatives, which was awarded CCA’s Best of Class in Programs and Projects in 2001. She has also produced a number of videos including The Spirit of Cooperation, The ABC’s of Cooperative Child Care, How to Organize and Run a Cooperative Food Buying Club and Purchasing Cooperatives: The Next Step to Success.
Her awards include the 1995 national Co-op Month Award for Communications, the year 2000 Outstanding Citizen of Greenbelt and in 2002 the H.E. Klinefelter award. Active in her community, in 2003 she was elected to the Greenbelt City Council.
